Bhakti YogaBhakti means devotional service. Every service has some attractive feature which drives the servitor progressively on and on. Every one of us within this world is prpetually engaged in some sort of servie, and the impetus for such service is the pleasure we derive from it. Bhakti or devotional service is activities performed for the pleasure of the Lord. This could be any form and type activity, as long as it is performed as a service to the Lord. Bhakti is a personalistic form of worship to the Supreme Lord. There are personal and impersonal schools of thought within all spiritual practices. Bhakti or devotion is the highest means by which one can directly link with the Supreme Lord. It revives one's natural identity and internal unification with God by reaffirming his natural love for Him. This is the process by which one attains the perfection of life, viz to become re-established in one's original constitutional position of an eternal servant of Krishna ("all attractive" God). At this stage a person is completely devoid of any materialistic motives and has no other desire than to please the Lord. Bhakti at this stage is not covered by karma (fruitive activities), jnana (knowledge) or adi (renunciation). All these activities may be present but are subordinate to the process of bhakti. So one may engange in fruitive activities, or pursue knowledge but in such a way that it will support, but not cover the execution of devotional service. |
