Health

The Journal of Medical Association states, "Ninnety to ninety-seven percent of heart disease, the cause of more than half of the deaths in the United States, could be prevented by a vegetarian diet."

Nineteen out of twenty-five nations, in which meat was a substantial part of the diet, had an extremely high cancer rate. Out of thirty-five nations, in which little or no meat was consumed, none had a high cancer rate.

Hunger

A 1972 report to the UN World Food Conservation stated, "The over-consumption of meat by the rich means hunger for the poor."

Seven of Jesus' twelve disciples refused to eat meat (there is no infomation of the others) :

Matthew "...lived upon the seeds and nuts, fruits and vegatbles without the use of flesh..."

Paul : "Destroy not the work of God for the sake of food...It is good neither to drink wine or eat flesh..."

Judaism

And God said : "...Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed which is upon the face of the Earth and every tree in which is the fruit of a yielding seed; to you shall be for meat..." (Genesis 1:29)
